Maine Coon

One of the largest domesticated cat breeds, the Maine Coon is famous for its rugged, shaggy coat, tufted ears, and bushy raccoon-like tail — built to withstand harsh New England winters. Despite their imposing size, they're famously gentle giants: friendly, sociable, and known for chirping, trilling vocalizations instead of typical meows. Maine Coons are intelligent, trainable, and often enjoy interactive play like fetch well into adulthood. They tend to be great with children, dogs, and other cats, making them one of the most family-friendly large breeds. Their semi-long coat sheds seasonally and benefits from a weekly brush to prevent matting.
